Picis Implements CareSuite Extelligence OR at 15 Healthcare Institutions and Releases Version 3.1
Leading healthcare facilities install Picis' surgical business intelligence solution to enhance efficiency and patient care
WAKEFIELD, Mass. — October 22, 2007— Picis, the leading provider of high-acuity care information systems, today announced the implementation of CareSuite™ Extelligence® OR at 15 leading healthcare institutions including: Carolinas HealthCare System, Camino Medical Group SurgiCenter, Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital, Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital and St. Joseph Hospital and University Medical Center. Picis also released its latest version of Extelligence OR, version 3.1, a Web-based business intelligence (BI) solution designed specifically for analyzing and managing the business performance of the surgical care environment.
This software seamlessly integrates with CareSuite OR Manager, Picis' operating room management system, allowing end-users to directly access and interpret the automatically-recorded data during the surgical continuum. Extelligence OR enables health systems to examine an extensive range of information from physician performance to scheduling efficiency to help improve time and materials management across the surgical department.
Extelligence OR version 3.1 allows executives and department directors to harness the power of data captured throughout the surgical process, such as case costs and milestones, patient information, stock items and implants, as well as the impact of surgeons, services and procedures. The technology empowers decision makers with easy access to digestible, actionable business intelligence, and requires little involvement from the hospital's information technology department. Enhancements featured in version 3.1 include: implant tracking (which is a requirement of Joint Commission), expanded age filters and technical upgrades.
Among the medical centers that recently implemented Extelligence OR are:
- Carolinas HealthCare System, N.C. — is the third largest public hospital system in the country, consisting of 21 facilities and serving as the regional referral center for western North Carolina and northern South Carolina.
- Camino Medical Group SurgiCenter, Calif. — serves the Bay Area and is part of the Camino Medical Group's (CMG) new 250,000-sq. feet outpatient facility. CMG, a division of the Palo Alto Medical Foundation provides patients with a broad range of health services in multiple locations.
- Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital, N.C. — is the flagship hospital of Moses Cone Health System. It is the largest medical center in its four-county region and houses 535 beds. Its facilities encompass the Moses Cone Heart and Vascular Center, a Level II Trauma Center, the Rehabilitation Center and the Neuroscience Center.
- Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital, Calif. — is a part of the St. Joseph Health System. The facility is a full-service acute inpatient and ambulatory care hospital and a medical referral center for the north coastal region of California. Its growing continuum of care includes wellness education and library services, urgent care, outpatient cancer care, home care and hospice. Santa Rosa is also a Level II Trauma center serving the North Bay to Eureka.
- St. Joseph Hospital, Calif. — is also a part of the St. Joseph Health System and is comprised of two campuses, both located in Eureka, Calif. The facilities include The Heart Institute, Cancer Program and The Childbirth Center, including the only Level II Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) on the North Coast.
- University Medical Center, Ariz. — is a private, nonprofit hospital located at the Arizona Health Sciences Center (AHSC) and is affiliated with The University of Arizona in Tucson, Arizona. AHSC includes the colleges of Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy and Public Health as well as the physicians from University Physicians Healthcare, and enables UMC to take a leadership role in offering the latest treatments and technologies.
“Camino Medical Group SurgiCenter performs a wide variety of surgeries every day, and each case produces an immense amount of data. Picis' OR Manager captures and stores the data while Extelligence OR enables us to transform the segmented information into complete, meaningful reports and drill into data more easily to get to the root,” said Melody States, director, Camino Medical Group SurgiCenter. “With a fuller understanding of what is taking place in the OR we can make smarter decisions for our patients, our staff and our facility.”
